Dunhuang tours Activities: After breakfast visit Yangguan pass, Great Wall of the Han Dynasty, Yadan National Geology park & Yumenguan Pass
After breakfast we drive to Yumenguan pass first which is located about 110kms from Dunhuang city. “Yumenguan” means jade Pass in Chinese and it is said that the jades from Western region transported into central China through this pass only. It used to be the gateway to the western region on the northern Silk Road. In ancient times, it also functioned as a strategic military pass and significant passage of the ancient Silk Road.
Then continue the tour to Great Wall of the Han Dynasty (206 BC to 220 BC). Unlike the other sections of the wall with bricks and stones, this section is made of rammed earth, gravel and juniper. Over the time, the wall has been badly damaged by nature and humans, but you can still see how the wall looked like at first.
After the site keep driving to Yadan National Geology park, a landscape that has been eroded by aeolian erosion. Once entering the park, you can find various natural sculptures in different postures and manners.
Last stop today is Yangguan Pass which is also used to be one of the most importation gateway on the Ancient Silk Road.
Dunhuang tours Activities: Visit the World heritage Mogao Grottoes, the echoing-sand dunes of the Ming Shan Mountains, Crescent Lake and Dunhuang Museum and Shazhou night market.
After breakfast visit the World heritage famous Mogao Grottoes the whole morning which were constructed over a millennium ago, from the 4th to 14th centuries. The caves are also known as the Thousand Buddha Caves with two distinctions of being one of the most notable grottoes in China as well as the best-preserved treasure house of Buddhist art, sutras, murals and sculptures in the world.
After lunch head to Dunhuang Museum which exhibits relics excavated from the local area, including papers and coins. The museum is also home to an excellent reconstruction of the Great Wall during the Han Dynasty.
Later Ride Camels, High Sand Dune Sliding or simply walk around. stop over at the mysterious Crescent Lake which no-one can explain the formation of such a geological oddity would be the great experience. If you like you can stay till sunset and back hotel later.
